I do not want to work with a student. Do you have licensed counselors?
Yes, we do. Please note that no cost counseling is provided only by our student counselors.
I’m not sure about working with a student. How do I know I’m receiving professional quality care?
Student counselors at MentalRest are completing the final portion of their graduate studies in counseling and will receive a master’s degree upon graduation. After finishing their program, these counselors are eligible to take the licensure exam, and upon passing, will become provisionally licensed counselors, often within months of their graduation. Throughout the time they provide care to clients, they are required to meet each week with an experienced, fully licensed counselor who closely monitors their progress. This supervision ensures that their work aligns with the laws and ethical codes governing the practice of counseling, and also that they are fully competent in the therapies they provide.
In addition to weekly supervision meetings, MentalRest student counselors participate in two hours of supervision meetings with their university instructors and peers, where they receive further guidance and support on cases, therapeutic approaches, and professional development. So, in effect, when you meet with a student counselor at MentalRest, you receive support from an entire team of therapists working together to ensure you receive professional, ethical, and effective care.
What if I want to continue seeing my counselor after 10 sessions?
We kindly request that you pay the student counselor session rate of $30 for telehealth sessions. If these rates are outside your budget, let us know, and we can explore a pay-what-you-can rate based on your situation.
My loved one needs no cost counseling. Can I sign them up?
We encourage loved ones to sign up themselves, but you’re welcome to assist with completing the form if you have their permission to do so.
I met with a student counselor, but I don’t think we’re a good match. Can I have another consult with a different counselor, or do I have to re-join the wait list?
