Rebecca Gaines, MS

I am currently working toward a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University. I previously obtained a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland - College Park, and a M.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of North Florida. Having worked for many years in human resources, I bring experience in helping individuals who were struggling with situations that affected their work and life. I served as an advocate for the employees and provided resources and referrals as needed. I look forward to directly helping more individuals as they seek change in their lives.

I am accepting adult clients for counseling. I have a strong interest in specific populations that include older adults, those who are differently-abled, and those with serious or chronic health issues. I am also interested in working with individuals who may be struggling with substance use. Practicing from a person-centered perspective, I believe that every individual deserves a safe and non-judgmental environment where they can share about their lives. It will be a true privilege to hold that space for my clients.

In addition to being person-centered, I am drawn to motivational interviewing to assist clients in identifying and enacting the change they would like to see in their lives. I have taken mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) courses and plan to use those techniques in my practice when useful. I can't wait to meet you and walk with you one day at a time
